 "Before the Alter & Beyond"

                                                    Throwing, Altering,
                                         10am - 5pm       & Texturing

We will start by making a series of cylinders in three pulls to get your
hands used to the motion of pushing the clay. (Think of this as pottery calisthenics)
You will then move on to a series of round forms to be used for altering the next day.  (...See below...If you are taking the "Practice Makes Perfect" workshop )

We will transform the pottery made on the first day by using a number
of handbuilding techniques.  You'll paddle, roll, drop, squeeze, impress
and carve your way through the leather hard pots, giving you the
opportunity to try new things.  The focus will be on pushing your limits
and taking risks with different ideas.

Please email me if you are interested in coming to this workshop.

  ''Practice Makes Perfect''
Working in Series
10am - 5pm

This workshop will focus on enhancing your skills using production
pottery techniques......

We will start by making a series of cylinders in three pulls to get your
hands used to the motion of pushing the clay. (think of this as pottery calisthenics)
You will then move on to a series of round forms, and later we will
briefly explore the bowl form and how it differs from the cylinder.
Out of those pieces saved for the next day we will work on handle
pulling and making attachments.  The pots from the previous day
will also be used for altering and texturing exploration.

Even though you will have a few nice pieces at the end of the second
day, the goal will not be making finished pots.  Instead it will be about
exercising your throwing muscles by pushing your limits.

Being free from the pressure of making a product will help in developing
a fluidity of motion while you work, and give you the opportunity to take
risks with different ideas.

It may never be your intention to be a production potter, but the practice you get from working in a series will help make each individual pot easier to form, and the ideas you have in your mind flow smoother from your fingertips.

Please email me if you are interested in coming to this workshop.
